The Arlanda Express is a high-speed rail service that connects Stockholm Central Station with Stockholm Arlanda Airport, covering the distance in just 18 minutes. Launched in November 1999, this environmentally-friendly train line was constructed to address the growing demand for rapid airport transfers as air travel in Sweden increased during the late 20th century. The initiative was a significant project for Swedish infrastructure, developed through a public-private partnership involving A-Train AB. The railway was built as part of a larger effort to modernize transportation between Stockholm and its main international airport, with key construction milestones including the opening of dedicated tracks and state-of-the-art stations both in the city and at each terminal of the airport. Employing cutting-edge train technology, the Arlanda Express was one of the first rail links specifically designed for airport transit in the Nordic region. Its operations have contributed to the reduction of carbon emissions by encouraging passengers to shift from car travel to this energy-efficient rail option.
Over the years, the Arlanda Express has served millions, evolving into a symbol of Sweden’s commitment to sustainable, high-speed transport infrastructure. The service’s reliability, comfort, and speed have positioned it as an essential component of Stockholm’s transit network, marking over two decades of facilitating seamless connections for travelers and locals alike.
