Avicii Arena

The Avicii Arena, formerly known as the Ericsson Globe, is one of Stockholm’s most iconic landmarks and cultural venues. It opened its doors to the public on February 19, 1989, and has since played a pivotal role in Sweden’s cultural and entertainment scene.

The arena is renowned for its unique architecture, being the largest hemispherical building in the world at the time of its completion. Its design symbolizes the sun, a fitting tribute to the importance of light in the Nordic countries.

The venue has hosted an array of significant events, ranging from concerts by globally renowned artists to international sporting events. Among the numerous memorable occurrences, the arena proudly presented the Eurovision Song Contest in 2000 and 2016, further cementing its reputation on the global stage. In 2013, the arena was the site where Sweden’s world-famous DJ Avicii performed one of his most celebrated shows. In December 2020, the venue was officially renamed Avicii Arena in honor of the late musician, recognizing his substantial influence on music and culture globally. This name change also aligns with a social initiative dedicated to mental health awareness, a cause Avicii was passionate about.

Whether it’s for its architectural marvel, historical events, or cultural significance, the Avicii Arena remains a centerpiece of Stockholm’s vibrant arts scene and a beacon of innovation and remembrance.
