Constructed in 1678, Hällestadsstapeln stands as one of Sweden’s earliest surviving wooden bell towers, reflecting the architectural heritage of the late 17th century. Situated Skansens, this iconic structure was originally designed to serve Hällestad Church in the province of Östergötland.
The tower is notable for its traditional Swedish carpentry, evident in the intricate design and sturdy oak and pine construction—a style that became typical for Swedish rural churches during this era. In 1894, the bell tower was relocated to its present location as part of a movement to preserve significant examples of Swedish ecclesiastical architecture. Over the centuries, it has witnessed numerous restorations, with careful preservation work completed as recently as the 20th century to maintain its historic character.
