Moragården

Moragården, located at Skansen open-air museum in Stockholm, is a historic Swedish farmhouse that exemplifies rural life and architecture from the 18th century. Originally constructed in Mora parish, Dalarna, the main building dates back to the late 1600s and early 1700s. The structure was carefully relocated to Skansen in 1891 as part of Artur Hazelius’s vision to preserve traditional Swedish culture and rural heritage during a period of rapid industrialization.

Moragården offers visitors a comprehensive glimpse into the daily life, customs, and agricultural practices of Swedish farmers before the modernization of the countryside. The farmhouse is surrounded by period-accurate outbuildings and landscapes, collectively representing a self-sufficient farmstead typical of the 19th-century Swedish interior.

Historic events such as midsummer celebrations and traditional handicrafts are regularly demonstrated at Moragården, making it a living testament to Sweden’s cultural and agrarian history. The preservation of Moragården also played a significant role in inspiring the creation of open-air museums across the world.
