National Museum

Established in 1866, the National Museum in Stockholm stands as Sweden’s primary national gallery, housing an extensive collection of artwork and design treasures.

The museum’s construction was inspired by both Renaissance and Baroque architectural styles, creating a historical ambiance that complements its vast display of fine art, craft, and design spanning several centuries.

The collection began with the royal acquisitions, and today, it showcases works from masters such as Rembrandt, Rubens, Goya, and Swedish luminaries like Carl Larsson and Ernst Josephson.

Following a major five-year renovation completed in 2018, the museum has become an inviting space for cultural enrichment, enhancing its function as a repository of 700,000 artifacts, including paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts. The interior was modernized while preserving the historic elements, allowing visitors to explore the evolution of art from the Middle Ages to contemporary times.

Additionally, the museum offers temporary exhibitions, educational programs, and workshops, making it a vibrant institution fostering appreciation for arts and history. Its scenic location by the waterfront adds to the museum’s charm, making it a must-visit destination for art lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
