Skrapan

Skrapan, a remarkable high-rise building in Stockholm, stands at 86 meters tall and dominates the skyline of the Södermalm district. It was originally constructed in 1959 as the headquarters for the Swedish Tax Authority, marking a significant post-war architectural achievement in Sweden. Designed by architect Paul Hedqvist, the building was one of the tallest in Stockholm upon its completion and exemplifies the Modernist architectural style of the mid-20th century.

In 2007, Skrapan underwent a major renovation and transformation into a mixed-use skyscraper, incorporating retail spaces, restaurants, and student apartments, a nod to its adaptability and the city’s evolving urban landscape. Its comprehensive revamp was led by architect Ackejin and Julian Weyer from C.F. Møller Architects, who preserved its historical essence while infusing it with contemporary functionality and design. The building features an observatory opening its doors with spectacular panoramic views that attract locals and visitors alike.

Moreover, Skrapan has become not only a landmark of modern architecture in Stockholm but also a hub of social and commercial activity, symbolizing the progressive spirit of Södermalm.
