Storkyrkan

The grand Storkyrkan, also known as Stockholm Cathedral, stands majestically in the heart of Stockholm’s Gamla Stan, the city’s old town. Its origins trace back to the 13th century, making it a beacon of Sweden’s rich history.

Originally constructed in the Brick Gothic style, the cathedral underwent significant Baroque alterations in the 15th century, which added to its grandeur. It has been the site for many royal coronations and wedding ceremonies, most notably the lavish nuptials of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia in 1976. The cathedral is home to several masterpieces, including "St. George and the Dragon," an exquisite sculpture symbolizing the battle against evil, crafted by Bernt Notke in the late 15th century.

Storkyrkan also houses an impressive astrological clock, a testament to the advanced craftsmanship of the medieval period. As one of Stockholm’s oldest buildings, it holds centuries of Swedish ecclesiastical and national history, inviting visitors to explore its sacred walls and the stories they harbor.
